A businesswoman and entrepreneur, Tumi Makgabo is Founder and Executive Director of 'AfricaWorldwide Media', a company aimed at providing opportunities for Africans to tell their own stories through the production of development focused content and the use of online platforms. In addition, she is the founder of 'Tumi Makgabo Enterprises' focused on identifying collaborative business opportunities throughout the continent.
An accomplished broadcaster in both her native South Africa and for news network CNN International, Tumi Makgabo uses her voice on global platforms to advocate for action on some of Africa's most pressing issues, particularly the empowerment of women. Press/media freedom is also a subject close to her heart.
Tumi has served on a number of advisory panels including for the European Commission and the African Union and currently serves on the boards of Sun International, South African Tourism and Pink Drive. She is also one of the patrons of the Future of the African Daughter Project.
In 2008 she was nominated to join the Forum of Young Global Leaders, an honour bestowed each year by the World Economic Forum on 200-300 young leaders from around the world in recognition and acknowledgement of their professional accomplishments, commitment to society and potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world.
Tumi's more than 15 years as broadcaster, in South Africa and for CNN International, have seen her act as a commentator and moderator for the United Nations, the European Commission, the Association for a Green Revolution in Africa chaired by Kofi Annan and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. She’s a recipient of the Eagle Award, a Rapport City Press Prestige Award, the DuPont Award and the African People’s Intercontinental Broadcaster of the Year Award. |
