Vibrant, Dynamic, Bubbly, Vivacious, Powerful... Soul Diva
These are just a few words to describe Dudu Ndlovu - the larger than life African Music Queen with a voice that hits straight to the soul.
This 26 year old hails from the culturally and creatively rich township of Kwa-Mashu in Kwa Zulu Natal. That’s where it all began for Dudu. If she wasn’t asked to start a hymn at every family gathering, it was dazzling her primary school classmates with the sounds of Brenda Fassie and her own personal favorite, ‘Sasikude’. From there it was evident to everybody that a star was in the making!
From these humble musical beginnings, Simply Unique, an all-female band was born. In forming the band, Dudu, a seasoned drummer, dancer and vocalist, teamed up with three other dynamic African beauties, and totally wowed Durban!
Apart from running her band, Dudu has shared a stage with some of Africa’s greatest musicians as well as international artists. She’s shared a stage with the likes of Bongo Muffin, Thandiswa, Ringo Madlingozi, Four Play, Oliver Mtukudzi, Hugh Masikela, Busi Mhlongo, and many more. Dudu is currently one of the backing vocals for the Nigerian born, KORA Award winner guitarist, Kunle Ayo. On the international front Dudu has shared a stage with Benny Hinn’s KCC Durban based choir, Donny McClurkin, Kirk Whalum and Kunle Ayo Mapumba and Antonio Lyons. A lasting memory for Dudu was singing with Frady Jackson on Joy of Jazz – August 2007.
In 2006 Dudu was invited to represent South Africa musically in “Celebrate Africa” during the Prague Cultural Week, where she performed along with the best of SA’s showcase talent … Gcina Mhlope among others.
Dudu entered the Idols Season 4 (2007) competition and made it all the way to the top 12 Girls!
Her first album, entitled, Isililo, is expected to hit the shelves soon.
The album commemorates, celebrates and explores Duduzile Ndlovu
