Gathered Moss Productions is a dynamic boutique production company,based in Cape Town. The production house announced its arrival on the SouthAfrican broadcasting landscape with the much-acclaimed reality series,Way of the Warrior – an original format devised, developed and produced for Mnet Action.

The series became a cult hit. The program trebled viewership figuresfor its timeslot, was nominated for a South African Film and TelevisionAward (SAFTA) in the category ‘Best Reality Show’ and is now activelybeing marketed as an original format to the international market byMnet.

Gathered Moss Productions also co-produced an AmericanFeature Documentary entitled The White Picket Fence Project with theLA-based production company, Silverwood Films.

But there is more to Gathered Moss Productions than Televisionproduction, documentaries and format-development. They have nowturned their creative juices, boundless energy and broadcastingexpertise to the corporate sector – undertaking everything fromcorporate training videos and event coverage to content acquisition andcreative viral clips.

Gathered Moss Productions’ mandate is to create fresh, original contentof an international production standard. Their overheads, as a boutiqueproduction company, are not as high as some of the other biggerproduction companies in Cape Town - which is particularly beneficialwhen quoting for specific budget requirements. This is done by keepingas much of the work within the company and outsourcing as little aspossible.

Gathered Moss Productions has ample experience in TV and Filmproduction, scriptwriting, post-production, graphics, managing budgetsand providing streamlined delivery in the high-pressure broadcastingenvironment. They will handle the entire project, from conception to
final, professionally packaged product.

Managing Partners

Tamarin Kaplan

Tamarin Kaplan -  managing partner of Gathered MossProductions, which caters to the Film, TV and corporate market inSouth Africa.

Tamarin studied Film and Media at UCT and was on the Dean Merit List for two years.
In 2005, she directed and produced adocumentary short entitled Education WithoutBorders for a Canadian NGO of the same name. Thefilm is about the adversity facing school children
living in the Cape Town township of Gugulethu, andhow, against all odds, they overcome thesehardships to obtain an education. The film helpedthe NGO purchase computers and other facilities forthe school. The film also was selected as the OpeningNight film for the documentary festival held atVictoria University in Vancouver, Canada in 2005. The film is now used as ateaching tool for the Education Program at Victoria University.

In 2006 and 2007, Tamarin was the producer and co-director (with Nicky Greenwall of Greenwall Productions) of the populare-TV series, Behind the Name, which focused on some of South Africa’smost prominent entertainers and personalities.

In 2008/2009, she produced and directed her first featuredocumentary entitled, Breaking the Line, which was on the officialselection of the International Encounters Documentary Film Festivaland the Apollo Film Festival and was screened on eTV.

In 2008, Tamarin directed a music video for Jody Williams (2007 Idolswinner) and in 2009 was commissioned by the Oscar Mpetha foundationto produce a feature documentary about the life of the ‘father of tradeunionism’, Mr. Oscar Mpetha, entitled Freedom in my Lifetime.

Tamarin then helmed the reality TV show, Way of the Warrior, whichscreened on MNET Action. The series, of which Tamarin was bothproducer and post-director, received high ratings and was nominatedfor ‘Best Reality Series’ at the 2011 South African Film and TV Awards.

Tamarin co-directed and coproduced the American Feature Documentarytitled The White Picket Fence Project, alongside LA Producer Lynette Howell. The documentary is a
co-production between Gathered Moss Productions and SilverwoodFilms and follows the trials and tribulations of two disadvantagedyoung men in vrious 3rd world countries over a period of five years.

Known and respected in the local industry, Tamarin was invited by the NFVF to participate as a judge forthe 2012 SAFTAs.

In 2011, Gathered Moss Productions was appointed bythe V&A Waterfront to procure and manage content for theAmphitheatre screen; a two year project managed by Tamarin in
her role as Executive Producer.

Colin Moss
Colin Moss has worked in the TV and film industryfor over15 years. He was first introduced tothe SA audience as Stuart Buller on the popularSouth African daytime drama, Isidingo. Since thenhis television engagements have included Citylife,Fear Factor SA, Idols 2003, Top Billing and Idols2005/2007.

His film credits include Crazy Monkey -Straight out of Benoni, Number 10, Cryptid, Big
Fellas, The World Unseen, Surviving Evil, Ex,Casting Me and Women in Love. Colin’s years ofexperience on local and international film andtelevision sets have allowed him to witness theinner workings a varied industry.

Colin put his experience to practical use with the inceptionof Gathered Moss Productions in 2009. The company quickly gained afoothold in the broadcasting industry – both in high-quality productionand novel format-development.

Colin’s boundless creativity sees himconstantly scriptwriting and developing new ideas and formats. In2010 he designed the pitch for the SAFTA-nominated reality programWay of the Warrior and served on the production in the capacity ofExecutive Producer and Scriptwriter. Way of the Warrior wasnominated for ‘Best Reality Series’ at the 2011 South African Film andTV Awards.
